Diaphragm air

The diaphragm is like a big wall in our bodies that helps us take in air. It sits just below our lungs and separates our chest from our belly. When we take a breath in, the diaphragm moves downward and makes room for our lungs to expand with air. This allows us to breathe in oxygen that we need for our bodies to function properly. As we breathe out, it relaxes back up, forcing the air out of our lungs. All this is going on without our even knowing it thanks to our diaphragm.

How the Diaphragm Works to Help Us Breathe

Have you ever filled a balloon with air, or blown bubbles in your drink with a straw? And the diaphragm uses the same principle. When we inhale, the diaphragm moves downward, creating space in our lungs. That is like blowing up a balloon. When we breathe out, the diaphragm moves upward, pushing the air out of our lungs the same way you would push the air out of a balloon. When we realize what the diaphragm does for us in breathing, we start to understand the wonder of what our bodies are doing for us when we take a breath, every single day.
